Conflict Minerals Report
ABB Ltd
For the year ended December 31,2023
This Conflict Minerals Report (CMR)of ABB Ltd for the calendar year 2023 hasbeen prepared pursuantto
Rule 13p-1 under the SecuritiesExchange Act of 1934 ("Rule 13p-1" or the"Rule"). The Rule was adoptedby the United
States Securities and Exchange Commission(SEC) to implement reportingand disclosure requirements relatedto conflict
minerals as directed by the Dodd-FrankWall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010. The Ruleimposes certain
reporting obligations on SEC registrants whosemanufactured products contain conflictminerals which are necessary to the
functionality or production of such products.Conflict minerals are definedas cassiterite, columbite-tantaliteand wolframite,
and their derivatives, which are limitedto tin, tantalum and tungsten, as wellas gold (3TG). These requirementsapply to
SEC registrants whatever the geographicorigin of the conflict minerals and whetheror not they fund armed conflict.
The functionality of a substantial portionof our global product portfolio relieson the use of direct materials,
especially electronic components, whichinclude amounts of tin, tantalum, tungsten or gold (
necessary conflict minerals
). If a
registrant can establish that their
necessary conflict minerals
originated from sources other than froma covered country
1
, or
are from recycled or scrap sources, they must submit a FormSD which describes their determinationand the Reasonable
Country of Origin Inquiry (RCOI) performed.
If a registrant has reason to believethat any of the conflict mineralsin their supply chain may haveoriginated in the
covered countries and are not from recycledor scrap sources, or if they are unableto determine the country of originof those
conflict minerals, then the registrant mustexercise due diligence on the conflictminerals' source and chain ofcustody. The
registrant must submit a Form SD togetherwith a CMR annually to the SECthat includes a description of those duediligence
measures.
Numerous terms in this report aredefined in Rule 13p-1 and the associatedForm SD and the reader isinvited to
refer to those sources. The report presentedherein is not audited. The content ofany website referred to in this reportis
included for general information onlyand is not incorporated by referencein this Report.
Section 1: Due diligence framework
In accordance with Rule 13p-1, we undertookdue diligence efforts, including the RCOI describedin the associated
Form SD, to determine whether the3TG in our products originated fromsources (e.g. suppliers, smelters, refiners, mines)
that did not or do not directly orindirectly finance or benefit armedgroups in the covered countries. We designed our due
diligence measures to be in conformity,in all material respects, withthe internationally recognized duediligence framework
set forth in the Organisation for EconomicCooperation and Development (OECD)Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible
Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affectedand High-Risk Areas:Third Edition (2016) (the OECD Framework)and
related supplements and its five-step framework.

Section 2: Due diligence measures undertaken
Our due diligence measures to identifythe sources of 3TG containedin our products continue to progressand
improve. In 2023, our due diligenceefforts concentrated on selectinga focused list of relevant suppliersand improving the
quality of the supplier responses whilemaintaining the other existingcompany-wide measures. Ourcustomized supply chain
systems permit us to identify our suppliersof 3TG and therefore increasethe efficiency of the RCOI process. Ourdue
diligence efforts included the followingfive steps, consistent withthe OECD Framework:
Step 1: Establish strong companymanagement systems
We undertook the following measures to establish strong companymanagement systems per Step 1 ofthe OECD
Framework:
Our commitment
We promote awareness of the conflict minerals program within ABBthrough a number of channels
including targeted communications to specificemployee groups as well as the maintenanceof articles and
videos on the Company's intranet.
We maintain an external website dedicated to material compliance, including a statement on our positionon
conflict minerals. The "ABB Policyon Conflict Minerals" with respectto the sourcing of 3TG is published
online at https://global.abb/group/en/about/supplying/responsible-minerals.
Supplier Engagement
We maintain and communicate our "Supplier Code of Conduct"which requires our suppliersto implement
a policy regarding conflict minerals,to exercise due diligence in investigatingthe source of these minerals,
and to respond in a timely mannerto ABB's requests for evidence of their compliancewith these
requirements.
As part of our supplier onboardingand evaluation process, we invite allnew suppliers to take an ABB-
specific web-based training courseon conflict minerals that covers the highlightsof the relevant law and
the importance of ethical sourcingto the industry and communicatesABB's policy on conflict minerals.
The training also includes guidance for oursuppliers on how to completethe Conflict Minerals Reporting
Template (CMRT) as developed and issued by the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI)of the
Responsible Business Alliance (RBA)and the Global eSustainability Initiative(GeSI). In addition, all new
suppliers are required to make an initialconflict minerals self-assessmentwhich indicates if the supplier
has taken this training course or an equivalenttraining.
We require suppliers to adhere to the "ABB General Terms and Conditions for Purchaseof Goods" which
requires our suppliers to provide requestedinformation regarding the use of 3TGin their products supplied
to ABB. In addition (as described onour website), these terms and conditionsrequire our suppliers to:
work towards ensuring that they donot have 3TG sourced from conflictmines in products
supplied to ABB,
comply with the ABB Supplier Codeof Conduct, including the sectionsrelating to conflict
minerals compliance,
take the necessary steps to demonstratethat any 3TG contained in the productssupplied to ABB
do not originate from mines that supportor fund conflict within thecovered countries, and
extend their search further downtheir supply chain, if necessary, to determine the source of
specified minerals.
For suppliers who continued to provideus with inaccurate or incomplete responseswe enhanced our
supplier due diligence process by providingthese suppliers with additionaltraining in the form of webinars
and other follow-up communications toassist in improving the response qualityof such suppliers.
Internal Management Systems
Within our global organization, our operating businessesare directly responsible for executingour conflict
minerals activities with support froma central project management team includingrepresentatives from
legal and finance. The representatives from each of ouroperating businesses comefrom various
backgrounds and have access to the fullresources within their respectivebusinesses, including the research
and development, the engineeringand the production departments.During 2023, managers from eachof the
group's four Business Areas were responsible for the executionof the program. The program wasoverseen
by a cross-functional Steering Committeeand sponsored at the Group ExecutiveCommittee level.
We provide ABB-specific web-based training courses to relevant employees. These are customized for
specific employeesso they understand ABB's Conflict Mineralsprogram and their support roles tothe
program. Each operating business's conflict minerals leader identifieskey conflict minerals personnelto
undergo mandatory training on conflict minerals.
Company Level Grievance Mechanism
We maintained our company-wide integrity reporting channels, such as the ABB BusinessEthics Helpline,
which is available for the reportingof any violations of our SupplierCode of Conduct including in relation
to conflict minerals. The service providesa grievance mechanism and ismaintained by an independent
third party. It can be used by ABB employees as well asparties outside ABB, such as suppliers. The
service allows for online reporting at www.compliancestakeholder.comand also provides a country-
specific telephone number if this methodof reporting is preferred.
Step 2: Identify and assess risks inthe supply chain
To identify risks in the supply chain, we performed the following:
Use best efforts to identify the smelters/refinersin the supply chain
In 2023, we aimed to identify the smelters/refinersin our supply chain through the surveyof approximately 3,100
relevant suppliers as described below. These suppliers identified374 smelters/refiners of 3TG that werepotentially in
their supply chains. Our list of thesesmelters/refiners is included in Annex I,including a summary of their validation
status under RMI's Responsible Minerals AssuranceProcess (RMAP).
Identify the scope of the risk assessmentof the 3TG supply chain
In 2023, we utilized our customized systemsto track the link between thecomponents purchased from our suppliers
and our products allowing us tomake a focused selection of the relevantsuppliers of 3TG. Purchased componentswere
evaluated, using ABB experts, includingproduct engineers, materialexperts and research and developmentpersonnel, to
determine if the component was likelyto contain 3TG. These identifiedcomponents were then categorized intodifferent
levels of risk, depending on the likelihoodof 3TG content, the volumeof transactions with the supplierand the total value
of the components purchased. Based onthese evaluations, and the enhanceddata available from our informationsystems,
we identified the relevant suppliersand prioritized which suppliers to survey, focusingon the highest-risk suppliersin
terms of 3TG content and amount of productspurchased. These supplierswere surveyed using the CMRT, as part of the
RCOI described in Form SD.
Assess whether the suppliers havecarried out all the elements of duediligence for responsible supplychains of
3TG from conflict-affected and high-riskareas
We have a structured process to sendand receive supplier surveys, follow upon non-responses, summarize survey
results, and identify and respond to redflags. Using the CMRT, we surveyedthe selected suppliers to gatherinformation
about smelters/refiners in their supplychain and provide uswith a list of those smelters/refiners. Formost of our
businesses, we have a dedicated team,in a global shared servicecenter, who reviewsthe completeness of supplier
responses and assesses whether suppliersappear to have carried out their ownappropriate supply chain due diligence. The
review team assesses each response for"red flags" (as described in the OECDFramework) and then furtherassessesthe
completeness of the supplier response. To perform the survey process, one of our BusinessAreas utilizes a third-party
service provider.
Our review process assessedthe completeness and accuracyof the list of smelters/refiners providedin the survey
responses. This included verifyingthe name and smelter status bychecking against the SmelterLook-up tab list of the
RMI's CMRT and the RMI's ConformantSmelter List.
Although the suppliers who respondedto our survey were able to provide uswith a list of the original
smelters/refiners they identified as beingused to process 3TG containedin their products, most of our supplierswere
unable to identify and represent whichsmelters/refinerswere specifically used for 3TGin the products or materials
supplied to ABB. Ourlist of smelters/refiners identifiedto be processing or refining 3TG in our productsis based on the
responses received from our suppliers.
Where suppliers did not respondto the initial survey request, additionalfollow-up inquiries were made. Follow-up
inquiries were also made on incompleteor inconsistent supplier responses, requesting additional informationor
clarification. In certain cases, the followup was made by product buyers, whoworked with suppliers to try toresolve
insufficient responses.
For completed surveys, responses wereevaluated against a pre-definedlist of red flags to determine whatcorrective
action, if any, was required for the identified risk. A correctiveaction plan was implemented for theidentified red flags,
including insufficient responses. Ultimately, the correctiveaction could include the discontinuationof sourcing from a
supplier. Our red flag review process is based on guidancefrom the OECD Framework. When evaluating ongoing
supplier relationships, the conflict mineralscompliance status of the supplierwas considered when determiningthe
continued use of a supplier.
Step 3: Design and implement a strategyto respond to identified risks
Report findings to designated seniormanagement
Throughout the supplier survey process,a management reporting dashboardwas available to the conflictminerals
senior management team on a real-timebasis. This provided timely summarystatistics on the supplier survey responsesas
well as the status of our overall riskassessment process. The dashboardalso provided a summary of thenumber of
responses requiring an escalation processto resolve response deficiencies oraddress identified red flags. Thecontent of
the dashboard was reviewed regularlyby a central project teamincluding a review of the progress onaddressing
responses subject to escalation. These results were reported to the SteeringCommittee which evaluatedthe
appropriateness of risk mitigationmeasures.
Devise and adopt a risk managementplan
In 2023, we contacted our suppliers whowere identified to be sourcing 3TGfrom high-risk smelters/refiners.We
sent each such supplier a letter requestingthem: (1) to confirm whether theidentified high-risk smelters/refinersare in
their supply chain and if materials fromthe identified high-risk smelters/refinerswere in products supplied to ABB,(2) to
encourage these smelters/refiners to participatein RMI's RMAP,and (3) to develop a planto remove any identified high-
risk smelters/refinersfrom their supply chain if thosesmelters/refiners refuse to participatein the RMI's RMAP.
Step 4: Carry out independent third-partyaudit of smelter/refiner duediligence practices
We are a downstream consumer of3TG. Generally, we do not purchaseraw minerals or ores, and are normally
several steps removed from smelters/refinerswithin our supply chain. Therefore, we generally do not performdirect
audits of those smelters/refiners. Wedo support the RBAand GeSI's RMI which is a measurecontemplated by the
OECD
Due Diligence Guidance for ResponsibleSupply Chains of Mineralsfrom Conflict-Affected and High-RiskAreas
, the
internationally recognized standard onwhich our Company's systems (describedin Step 1 above) are based. Part of our
support was the participation in pre-auditvisitsof certain tin smelters inAsia. The data on whichwe relied for certain
statements in this CMR was obtainedthrough our membership in the RMI, usingthe Reasonable Country of Origin
Inquiry report for member "ASEA".
Step 5: Report annually on supplychain due diligence
This report and the associated Form SDare available online at https://global.abb/group/en/investorsunder
"Reporting", "SEC filings".
Section 3: Results of due diligence
In 2023, we received and accepted completedreporting templates from 87% of our surveyedsuppliers (90% in
2022). The acceptance ratesreflect the maturity of our supplierengagement process and the focusedescalation of non-
responsive suppliers to the appropriatelevels when needed.
Our suppliers are generally several tiersremoved from the smelters/refinersof raw materials withintheir supply
chain, and therefore have challengesin performing their due diligence. As a result, the informationprovided by our suppliers
is often incomplete or is not verified, and we are therefore unableto verify the source and chain of custodyof all the 3TG
minerals in our supply chain.
In 2023, our supplier responses identified374 smelters/refiners as being the sourceof 3TG in their products (345 in
2022). The complete listsof identified smelters/refiners areincluded in Annex I of this CMR.However, the suppliers only
provided the country of origin ofthe 3TG in a limited number ofcases. We obtained further sourcing information through
our membership in the RMI whichallows us access to the names of thecountries of origin for 3TG processedby certain
smelters/refiners.
The following table provides the numberof smelters/refiners identifiedin our supply chain.

Audited and found to beconformant with the RMI's ResponsibleMinerals Assurance Process (RMAP conformant).
(2)
In the process of beingaudited (RMAP Active). This category also includes smelters and refinerswith whom we are in communicationbut have
not commenced the validationaudit.
(3)
Have not commenced theRMAP validation audit.
Through our regular interaction withthe RMI, we benefit from their activities, including their efforts to validate
smelters as 'RMAP conformant'in line with current global standards. The percentage of the identified smelters/refiners
which were designated as RMAPconformant in 2023 is 64% comparedto 65% in 2022. The generallyhigh percentage of
RMAP conformant smelters/refinersreflects the strong participation ofsmelters/refiners in the RMI/RMAPaudit process.
We have not been able to determinethe conflict status for all smelters/refinersused in our supply chain. However,
based on the information that wehave received from our suppliers,we have not identified any smelters/refinersin our supply
chain which are known to be sourcing3TG that directly or indirectly financesor benefits armed groupsin the covered
countries.
As allowed by the
Statement on the Effect of the RecentCourt of Appeals Decision on theConflict Minerals Rule,
issued by the SEC on April 29, 2014, ABBhas not described its productsas "DRC conflict free" or "havingnot been found
to be 'DRC conflict free'".
Section 4: Continuous improvement effortsto mitigate risk
During 2024, we plan to focus on thefollowing steps as part of our conflictminerals due diligence program:
conduct smelter and refineryvisits to provide face-to-facesupport,
continue to support the RMI and themembership initiatives to workwith smelters and refiners to have
them undergo the OECD-aligned audit for responsiblesourcing,
continue to follow OECD due diligenceguidance and attend industryevents to support responsible
sourcing,
continue to work with suppliers toexplain smelter and refinery OECD-alignedaudit status for responsible
sourcing as well as encouraging suppliersto work directly with smelters and refiners,
provide additional Conflict Mineralstraining and continuous supportthroughout the year for queries related
to responsible sourcing and conflictminerals requirements,
inform suppliers about the changesin the RMI smelters status duringthe program,
continue to lead the RMI Asia smelterengagement team and the gold outreachin India which involves
working with gold refiners in Indiato educate and encourage them to undergo OECD-alignedresponsible
sourcing audits,
engage with suppliers reporting non-conformantsmelters and refiners soas to encourage them to workwith
their upstream supply chain for amission towards responsible sourcing, and
encourage businesses internally to workwith suppliers that consistentlyreport non-conformant smeltersor
refiners.
Section 5: Independent audit
As ABB has not concluded on the DRCconflict status for any of its products, this CMR does not require an
independent private sector audit.
Annex I - Lists of smelters/refiners
These lists of smelters/refiners were producedby consolidating information wehave received from our suppliers.
We have provided conflict minerals training to our suppliersand independently verified the statusof the smelters/refiners
using RMI and other data, but we cannotguarantee that the data we havebeen provided is accurate or complete. In most
cases suppliers have not been ableto confirm that these smelters/refinershave been used in the productsthey have supplied
to us because they were not able to providetheir CMRTsat the product level. Therefore,it is possible that the lists contain
smelters/refiners which were not usedto process 3TG contained in ourproducts.
We generally do not have direct business relationships with any ofthe smelters/refiners listed below. In general, we
are several tiers removed from smelters/refinersand therefore unable to exert directinfluence over smelters/refiners.Due to
the size of our supplier base and thecomplexity of global supply chains,we are also unable to clearlytrace at what stage
individual smelters/refiners enter thesupply chain of our direct suppliers.
